Health Equity Trends Summit
Publication Date: June 6, 2024
The Health Equity Trends Summit, hosted by the Health Equity Compact, was held at UMass Boston. It brought together over 400 in-person attendees and several hundred more online for a day packed with insightful discussions and keynote speeches. Notable speakers included Governor Healey and Michael Curry, one of the Coalition's leadership team members and the President & CEO of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers.
The summit highlighted the importance of centering equity across all sectors of healthcare, including state government, hospital systems, and health plans.
A particularly engaging session was a panel on the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) within healthcare settings, e.g., for electronic medical record documentation and billing. This panel addressed the crucial issue of preventing biases in AI systems and how to ensure AI applications do not exacerbate existing inequities based on historical information they have been fed.
A special shoutout goes to our Coalition team member, Sonna Obiorah, a senior staffer for the Health Equity Compact. Her significant role in organizing the summit was instrumental in the event’s success. Coalition team members Stephanie Chan and Carine Davila are pictured above attending the Summit.
